Initial Deadline for Interim Party Chair Candidates

We are seeking self nominations for Interim Party Chair to serve our Party from December 2, 2023 through the 2024 State Convention to be held on May 18-19, 2024. All members of the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i that are citizen resident in the State of Hawai‘i, are encouraged to apply as long as they have been a member of the Party for a year as of December 2, 2023. (Article V, Section 2A). The Party Chair’s duties are, pursuant to Article V, Section 3 (1) of the Party’s Bylaws:

• The Party Chairperson shall serve as chairperson of the State Central Committee, and appoint chairpersons of all special and standing committees with the advice and consent of the State Central Committee. Vacancies may be filled on an interim basis until confirmed by the State Central Committee at its next meeting. The Chairperson shall call all regular and special meetings of the Executive and State Central Committee. The Chairperson shall submit an operating budget for the biennium following the initial organization meeting of the State Central Committee. The Chairperson shall serve faithfully on behalf of the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i as an active member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and the DNC’s Association of State Democratic Chairs (ASDC), and is encouraged to attend each regular DNC and ASDC meeting.
• The deadline to self nominate is November 25, 2023. However, nominations from the floor will be accepted. Those that self nominate by the deadline will have their nomination paperwork sent to the SCC members for them to review prior to the December 2, 2023 Special SCC Meeting that has been called for this election. The candidates will also be given the contact information for all SCC members. To self nominate, a member just needs to email the Party’s Secretary Bixby Ho with their legal name, residential address, and a no more than one page bio that includes your contact information to secretary@hawaiidemocrats.org.
