The presidential races have heated up, the country seems willing to turn away from the failed policies of the Bush Administration and his Republican enablers, and we are seeing many new faces turning out to participate in the political process.

I welcome you to participate in our democracy through the Democratic Party.

We think of ourselves as a large 'ohana under a broad tent that comfortably includes all of the diverse points-of-view that contribute to our island society. The Party unites this treasured diversity into a single purpose: the betterment of Hawai'i for all of our citizens, not just a privileged few.

The Democratic Party of Hawai'i has a proud history that predates statehood. We are the progressive force that led Hawai'i out from under the oligarchy that ruled the islands from the overthrow of the Hawaiian Kingdom through the end of the Korean War. Democrats have made Hawai'i into a modern, egalitarian state. We have encouraged participation by all - workers and business people, women and men of all races and creeds, the young to the aged, the homeless to the wealthy.
