Press Release - Inaugural Gala
The Democratic Party of Hawaii will host the local Inaugural Gala for Barack Obama at the iconic Royal Hawaiian Hotel on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm in the historic Monarch Room. This will be the very first event held at the Royal Hawaiian as it emerges from a multi-million dollar renovation.
Tickets will be $250 per person for regular admission and $1,000 per person for VIP service. Tickets may be obtained by calling the Democratic Party of Hawaii at 596-2980 or going to www.hawaiidemocrats.org with proceeds from the event going to the Democratic Party of Hawai‘i. Former Hawaii Democratic Governors George Ariyoshi, John Waihee and Ben Cayetano, and first ladies Jean Ariyoshi, Lynn Waihee, and Vickie Cayetano are the honorary co-chairs of the event. Dress will be “island elegant.”
“This will be a special evening for the people of Hawaii. We are all overflowing with hope and pride, and there’s no better place to celebrate Barack Obama’s swearing in than at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel” said Brian Schatz, Chair of the Democratic Party of Hawaii. “We want all of Hawaii to celebrate together at this ball.”
In addition,the Royal Hawaiian is offering kamaaina rates for the evening to residents who want to stay at the hotel. The Royal Hawaiian is renowned as a destination for international royalty, Hollywood stars and a retreat for presidents and heads of state. The “Pink Palace of the Pacific” closed in June and opens on January 20th.
